Acerola FAQ

Acerola products: frequently asked questions

What is the difference between natural and synthetic Vitamin C?

Our body is not able to exploit synthetic Vitamin C properly since it is lacking those specific natural accompanying fruit substances, which are responsible for the absorption of Vitamins.

Our Acerola powder is made of whole fruits, meaning that it contains Vitamins plus essential vegetable fibres and flavonoids, which are important factors in our bioavailability.

“Bioavailability“ is an indicator that monitors the applicability of Vitamins, meaning how quickly our body is able to absorb and to exploit Vitamins.

Why is organic Acerola powder yellowish and not rosy as is conventional Acerola powder?

Our conventional Acerola powder is made of a well-balanced mix of ripe and unripe cherries to preserve the specific properties of both.

Today organic Acerola cherries are being offered unripe only, what is the reason for the yellowish colour and for the less sourly taste.

Why do we repeatedly have supply probems with organic Acerola?

There still exist only few organic Acerola plantations. Additionally, this year bad weather conditions bothered our suppliers: during the first months of the year Brazil suffered from extremely heavy rainfalls which flooded entire regions.

The roads to most of the organic plantations had been impassable for weeks, the bushes stood under water.

Is Acerola powder available without any carrier?

Our Acerola powder is made by the spraying method and cannot be made without any carrier, because the powder is extremely reactive with oxygen, which makes it clumpy and let it perish quickly. As carrier we use maltodextrin of GMO-free corn.

Why is AMAZONAS Acerola so exceptional?

Our supplier obtains profound experience and know-how. Exclusively for us he has developed a method to compose ripe and unripe fruits in a well-balanced ratio to exploit optimally the specific properties of both ripeness degrees. Unripe green Acerola cherries, on the one hand, contain a higher amount of Vitamin C than ripe fruits, on the other hand, however, they are lacking flavonoids which develop during the ripening process.

Ripe Acerola fruits contain Vitamin C but also the whole range of vegetable substances, such as fructose and others. During the ripening process, however, the amount of fructose in the fruits increases, which – coming in contact with oxygen – makes the powder lose its moistness and become clumpy.

May Acerola be applied as anti-ageing product?

Yes. Our Acerola powder contains minimum 17 % natural Vitamin C, various other Vitamins and a plenty of secondary plant substances. These flavonoids belong to the most important accompanying substances, supporting the optimal absorption of Vitamin C by our body and thereby protecting our cells from ageing.

What does „RDA“ mean concerning the nutrition facts on our labels?

What does „RDA“ mean concerning the nutrition facts on our labels? RDA = Recommended Daily Allowances of essential nutrients which are recommended by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer protection for daily use and for healthy people. For example Vitamin C: 1 Acerola tablet contains 80 mg Vitamin C what corresponds to 100 % RDA.

Why does organic Acerola powder sometimes tend to be sticky?

Our organic Acerola powder is to 100 % natural and contains the carrier maltodextrin (made of manioc). It is free of additives like dyestuffs or synthetic Vitamin C. To produce 1 kg of powder extract we use 10 – 11 kg Acerola cherries (concentration 10:1 to 11:1). This highly concentrated Acerola powder contains a high amount of fruit sugar which is highly reactive with oxygen. Too much oxygen makes the powder clumpy. That can be avoided if the jars are stored in a dry place and do not stand open too long.
